About my hoofcare practice

  • In my practice I strive to simulate the wear pattern the horse would have if it were in its native conditions.

  • This requires partnership and dedication between myself and the horse’s caretaker.

  • In general, the horses that I care for are on a much shorter trim cycle than many are used to.

  • Depending on the needs of the horse, I will trim their hooves on a 1-5 week schedule.

At your first appointment please expect to spend at least an hour with me. We will look at your horse together and build a plan. I will take starting point photos of your horse and their hooves for both of us to reference as we progress. When I begin trimming you may notice that I stop frequently and assess how the horse is responding to the work being done. This is an integral part of what I do. It is imperative to me that the horse be allowed to freely express their feelings. The horse will tell me if the work I am doing is making the hoof more comfortable or not.

We will decide together when a follow up appointment will be. These are generally scheduled in a 1 hour time slot but generally take 30 min to complete.

About me

I have a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors, continued education, and all critters big and small.

I began my path in the “work force” as a registered nurse. I worked in various community health areas as well as cardiac critical care. After experiencing deep burn out while working in a hospital setting I began focusing on nurturing other areas of in my life.

I learned to trim my own horses out of necessity and dove head first into learning all that I could about the subject. During this time I was also spending a great deal of time healing myself in nature. I was backpacking in remote areas and obtained a Wilderness First Responder certification. I created classes and community involvement events to share my knowledge of backpacking with others.

I realized during that time that there is a great need for farrier care focused more on building a sound hoof rather than covering pain with shoes. I began expanding my formal knowledge about holistic horsemanship and hoof care and began taking on clients outside of my personal horses. I am now a standing member with Progressive Hoof Care Practitioners (PHCP) and routinely add to my knowledge base with their continuing education.
